If so, training to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician is the first step on a progressive career ladder at Dartmouth Health. As a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you have the opportunity to progress toward becoming an Advanced Technician, a Pharmacy Lead, Trainer, or Supervisor. Pharmacy Technicians are detail-oriented, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and are committed to helping patients access the medications they need.
The Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program is designed to give trainees the knowledge and skills they need to embark upon a career in pharmacy. Selected candidates are hired by a Dartmouth Health pharmacy in Lebanon, NH (e.g., DHMC Inpatient Pharmacy, Dartmouth Cancer Center Pharmacy, and Centerra Retail Pharmacy).
During the 10-week training program, trainees earn 19 college credits and a pre-tax training wage of $680 per week. Benefits are retroactively effective to the first day of employment. At the end of the 10-week program, students sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) CPhT exam and are enrolled in a 2,000-hour US DOL Registered Apprenticeship.
This full-time, benefits-eligible training program starts with one week of onsite orientation, followed by 9 weeks of rigorous academic and vocational training. Those 9 weeks are typically comprised of four days of remote learning and one day of on-the-job training. The program's primary courses are Pharmacology, Medical Terminology, Pharmacy Calculations, Pharmacy Lab, Pharmacy Technician Practices, Pharmacy Practicum, and Communications in Healthcare.
