Provides general nursing care to patients within scope of licensure to all specialties departments. Specialty Services Departments include Cardiology, General Surgery, Urology, Oncology/Infusion, and Rheumatology.
Responsibilities
General Clinical Practices:
Utilizes accepted processes of care in interactions with all patients, to include documenting symptoms and vital signs, responses to interventions and reporting progress to providers.
Demonstrates the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the populations served.
Adheres to the practice standards and procedures of New London Hospital in the administration of medications and patient care activities.
Accurately documents care provided in EMR
Creates and maintains the patient care environment, to include meeting all safety standards, maintaining cleanliness and inventory of supplies, medications and sterility/cleanliness of equipment.
Completes appropriate charging documentation.
Responds and to patient calls, messages and prescription requests including prior authorizations within a timely manner.
Triage phone calls from patients to include assessment of symptoms, analyzing urgency of needs, advising simple treatment or referring for immediate care in the emergency room or physician’s office.
Conducts nurse visits as requested by provider.
Assists provider with treatments/procedures within scope of practice.
Administration of medications per provider orders within scope of practice.
Identifies patient education needs, providing instruction or referring appropriately.
