Overview

The Risk Management Specialist coordinates both the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health (DH-H) Risk Management (RM) and Office of Claims Management (OCM) while performing standard, advanced and confidential work. Facilitates and implements claim and insurance processes for insured providers and DH-H system members. Engages in process and/or system development, maintenance and support to further advance the RM and OCM programs.

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates internal and external communications for Risk Management (RM) and the Office of Claims Management (OCM), ensuring timely and accurate information exchange across a variety of communication channels.
  2. Receives, triages, and coordinates Risk Management inquiries in collaboration with the RM team to ensure appropriate follow-up.
  3. Collaborate with RM team members to support service line work.
  4. Guides and executes RM and OCM office procedures and systems including filing, scheduling, document requesting, document processing, and mail handling for all DH Health system members.
  5. Facilitates acquisitions and maintenances of RM and OCM data required for trend analysis and risk assessment prioritization.
  6. Identifies, analyzes, and updates content of RM and OCM intranet, SharePoint, and department Drive to ensure accuracy and timeliness of material posted.
  7. Coordinates claims/loss histories for current and former DH providers.
  8. Collaborates with Insurance Specialist (Finance) on professional or general liability insurance verifications related to coverage by the Hamden insurance program.
  9. Processes requests for RM or OCM reports as directed by leadership.
  10. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
  • Clinical or healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data sets and translate findings into reports that support operational or strategic decision-making.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, to support analysis, reporting, and professional communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with organizational policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to prioritize workload, manage competing demands, and deliver results within established timelines.
  • Proven ability to analyze information and produce well-structured reports and presentations to support decision-making.
