Overview

The Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC) is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative full- time Hematologist to join our Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center at our main campus in Lebanon, NH.

The Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center, part of the Dartmouth Cancer center, is one the three federally funded Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Centers in northern New England. Our Center is part of the national network supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The center provides comprehensive care for pediatric and adult patients with inherited and acquired bleeding and clotting disorders and houses the region’s only specialized coagulation laboratory.

The successful candidate will collaborate effectively within an expanding integrated health system, have excellent communication skills, and evidence of a strong clinical background. Responsibilities and activities include:

  • Outpatient clinic consultations for patients with bleeding or clotting disorders
  • Inpatient consultations for patients with bleeding or clotting disorders who present to the emergency department or are admitted under medicine or surgical services.
  • Teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students on consultative or clinic rotations.
  • Participation in local coagulation conferences and regional activities
  • Engaging in quality improvement and clinical research projects
  • Collaboration with and coordination of the multidisciplinary team (nursing, advanced practice providers, physical therapist, social worker and other health care professionals) to provide holistic care for patients with bleeding disorders including hemophilia, von Willebrand’s disease and other rare bleeding disorders
  • Candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment through the Geisel School of Medicine at a rank commensurate with qualifications.
  • This position does not have inpatient malignant hematology service requirements

Responsibilities




  1. Provide clinical and related administrative services and actively participate in and contribute to DHC’s academic endeavors.


  2. Abide by the Dartmouth Health Bylaws for the Professional Staff and Code of Conduct.


  3. Review records and detailed medical history from patient(s).


  4. Determine appropriate diagnosis (diagnoses) and treatment plan(s).


  5. Determine and order appropriate screening and diagnostic tests and studies.


  6. Obtain informed consent for treatment diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and studies.


  7. Interpret and evaluate test and study results.


  8. Prescribe medications, treatments, and medical devices in accordance within specialty scope of practice and applicable rules and regulations.


  9. Initiate referrals to other providers as necessary.


  10. Initiate admission/discharge of patients, if applicable.


  11. Provide consultation, education, and counseling regarding the management of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries. Encourage behavioral change and assist with self-management skills to improve overall health, within specialty scope of practice.


  12. Complete appropriate documentation in a timely manner.


  13. Provide patient and family-centered care.


  14. Insure the patient’s right to privacy, confidentiality and informed consent.


  15. Supervise APP’s as directed.


  16. Participate in continuing medical education (CME).


  17. Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives.


  18. Participate in academic responsibilities assigned by the Department Chair or designee, to include, but are not limited to:


  19. Leading small group resident conferences


  20. Training of Residents


  21. Teaching medical and other health professional students


  22. Participating in clinical trials or other sponsored research


  23. Any other Geisel obligations (if any)


  24. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications




  • Advanced clinical degree (MD or DO)


  • Post graduate training in residency program


Required Licensure/Certifications




  • Current New Hampshire Medical License


  • Current or eligible for ABMS Board Certification (to be obtained within 5 years)


  • Active hospital staff membership
