Overview

The Sr. Director of Ambulatory Nursing provides oversight for nursing practice across all ambulatory services, as well as leadership for clinical operations within the specialty medical practices to support the strategic direction of Cheshire Medical Center and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health (D-HH) system. The Sr. Director has responsibility and accountability for establishing and maintaining excellence in nursing practice, and effectiveness and efficiency of nursing operations within his/her defined areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  5. Assures ongoing regulatory readiness and compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations and accrediting agencies.
  6. Develops, implements, and revises ambulatory policy, procedures and nursing/nursing delegated practice to ensure that they reflect appropriate scope, current evidence, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  7. As a member of the department triad structure collaborates with physician and operational leaders to ensure high quality, evidence informed and patient-centered care that meets or exceeds the standards of care.
  8. Develops collaborative professional relationships between and among medical staff and ambulatory operations for the purpose of creating a healing and supportive environment for patients and staff.
  9. Acts as a change agent and manage organizational change efforts to ensure operational effectiveness.
  10. Collaborates with physician and operational leadership to develop business plans and innovation within ambulatory services. Provides the clinical support to implement short and long-term programmatic, financial, and operational plans. Assesses the operational and financial performance of existing and potential new programs and services.
  11. Leads program planning, implementation and evaluation efforts for areas of responsibility both at a strategic and tactical level.
  12. Engages in ongoing personal development and provides management, development and coaching for other members of the ambulatory nursing team.
  13. Ensures exceptional patient experience through patient centered initiatives and high levels of customer service.
  14. Facilitates the development and implementation of evidence based practice.
  15. Maintains an environment that promotes patient safety, high reliability of processes and quality outcomes.
  16. Collaborates with operations director to develop and oversee departmental budgets and assures financial accountability for operational and capital budgets. Provides input into capital supply and equipment needs, investigates and reports variances.
  17. Meets short-term and long-term financial goals by continually planning, developing, adjusting and identifying opportunities to improve patient access, maximize revenue and reduce costs while maintaining quality of services
  18. Assure efficiencies in staffing and resource utilization by comparison with internal and external benchmarks as measured by productivity and cost per unit for areas of responsibility.
  19. Supports department leaders to provide management of the day-to-day clinical operations, productivity, staffing and scheduling, and coordination across departments.
  20. Provides service recovery and supports patient relations.
  21. Participates as a member of the campus leadership to identify and solve operational problems, ensure coordination of care and services among departments, and develop opportunities for new or enhanced patient care services.
  22. Interface and collaborate with system and outside health care providers and agencies as appropriate to enhance care of patients and community.
  23. Keep abreast of new developments – in particular, best practices and regulatory changes and management strategies which may affect the operation of the department.
  24. May be required to assume responsibilities of lesser, equal, or greater scope of responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in health care management, business administration, nursing or related field, or Bachelors Degree with equivalent additional training and certification or experience.
  • Bachelors or Masters Degrees must be in nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years in clinical care.
  • 5 years’ experience in health care administration, preferably in the ambulatory care setting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information to all levels within the organization.
  • Able to maintain professional demeanor and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, treating all patients, customers, family members, visitors, providers, and staff with respect, caring, and dignity.
  • Proficient in interpreting and developing financial and operational reports/information.
  • Understands and is able to apply Quality Improvement theory and tools.
  • Has intermediate to advanced computer skills, must be able to work with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Graduate of a state accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Current New Hampshire Registered Nurse license.
  • Must be in good standing with the Board of Nursing.
  • Green Belt Certification strongly preferred.
