Overview

This position is located in Lebanon, NH. 

Provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education.

Responsibilities

  1. Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
  2. Determines final test parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director. Matches night assignments to patients, based on the test requirements and patient needs.
  3. Follows procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data. Implements appropriate interventions during the study.
  4. Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  5. Provides instruction, direction, and/or assistance to sleep trainees, technicians, and technologists on center-specific protocols and AASM guidelines.
  6. Explains pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient and responds to procedural-related inquiries.
  7. Documents routine observations in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  8. Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
  9. Scores clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, etc.) according to center-specific protocols, utilizing AASM standard.
  10. Generates reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  11. Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments if necessary.
  12. Perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.
  13. Performs patient education and instruction appropriate for out of center sleep testing.
  14. Demonstrates adherence to AASM scoring parameters for HSAT; identifies artifact, inadequate signals, and study failures and generate an accurate report.
  15. Evaluates related equipment and inventory and performs routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
  16. Reviews and evaluates sleep studies and provides feedback to staff.
  17. Performs all other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than than one year duration required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in biological, physical or mental sciences or completion of an accredited training program or associates degree in nursing, respiratory therapy, EEG or the equivalent prefered.
  • Three (3) years prior polysomnography and scoring experience required.
  • Ability to use good judgment and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Able to deal appropriately with emergency medical situations.
  • Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Prior supervision experience prefered.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy and recognize and observe privacy and confidentiality.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • BLS
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
