Overview

The Program Manager – Learning & Leadership Development plays a vital role in designing, executing, and continually enhancing leadership and employee development programs across the Dartmouth Health system. This position focuses on building leadership capability at all levels while fostering a culture of continuous learning, growth, and engagement.

 

Reporting to the Manager of Learning & Leadership Development, the Program Manager oversees a strategic portfolio of learning and leadership development initiatives, performance management, and employee experience programs. The role is responsible for managing end-to-end program execution—driving timelines, stakeholder alignment, implementation, and evaluation.

 

Success in this role requires strong project management skills and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across HR and business units. The Program Manager ensures programs are well-integrated, aligned with organizational goals, and continuously refined based on data and feedback to maximize impact and relevance.

 

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position.  This role is based in a hybrid work environment, with an expectation of being on-site up to 3 days per week. On-site days will vary based on program needs.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive portfolio of programs/initiatives, including leadership and employee development programs, mentorship initiatives, employee experience, performance management, and on-demand leadership resources.
  2. Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including HR Directors and key stakeholders, while managing relationships with third-party vendors.
  3. Leads the full lifecycle of assigned programs, from scoping and logistics planning to budget management, implementation, and post-program evaluation to ensure strategic alignment and measurable impact.
  4. Manages multiple initiatives concurrently using strong project management skills, ensuring timely delivery, high-quality outcomes, and alignment across functions and teams.
  5. Develops and executes communication plans to promote awareness, engagement, and participation in learning and leadership development programs across the health system. This includes crafting messaging for internal campaigns, intranet posts, email communications, and digital signage, in collaboration with Communications & Marketing as needed.
  6. Partners with HRIS and other stakeholders to manage programs within the Learning Management System, identifying ways to better utilize the system for leadership development purposes.
  7. Serves as a confident facilitator and presenter to varying levels of leadership.
  8. Stay current on trends and innovations specific to healthcare, including leadership development, learning technologies, performance management, and employee experience, to inform strategy and program design.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience in a related field such as Organizational Development, Organizational Effectiveness, and/or Corporate Training and Development.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines, logistics, communications, coordinate across cross-functional teams and report on results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with a high level of autonomy and accountability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and present on programs and initiatives with clarity and simplicity.
  • Excellent planning, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in virtual facilitation on platforms such as Webex, Zoom, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience working in a complex or matrixed organization, ideally in healthcare or a similarly regulated environment.
    • Familiarity with instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
    • Experience supporting or leading the execution of leadership development programs and employee experience initiatives
    • Comfort working with learning management systems (LMS) and survey or feedback platforms.
