Our Laboratory Assistants receive laboratory specimens from inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and outside institutions.  Candidates for this position must have obtained their high school diploma or GED, with some college coursework and previous laboratory experience preferred.  We are seeking candidates with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.  Our laboratory team is a high-functioning, dedicated group of professionals who work diligently to the highest possible standards.

 

This area of the lab conducts testing on specimens to detect infections, which can include bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. This is a hands-on job that involves a variety of unique techniques, including ‘plating’ specimens to promote good microorganism growth and loading cutting-edge technology.

 

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, evening-shift position working Monday-Friday 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm.  This position requires working weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.  We are also offering a sign-on/retention bonus for this position.  *The bonus is available for external hires only and certain conditions apply.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs functions related to demographic data, test requisitioning, labels and reports. Processes specimens.
  2. Obtains blood specimens from patients. Obtains specimen requirement information.
  3. Operates the pneumatic tube system (PTS) to ensure timely delivery of laboratory specimens.
  4. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate required.
  • Coursework toward a college degree preferred.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast paced, demanding environment required.
