Reviews and enters data related to trauma into the system of record. Performs follow-up and state reporting functions to ensure proper tracking.
Responsibilities
Reviews clinical records of trauma patients and enters pertinent data into database.
Abstracts information on demographic characteristics, diagnostic procedures, diagnosis, extent of disease, and treatment from patient charts.
Provides support of the database including, but not limited to, training and education.
Participates in the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the database. These activities may include database building, programming, problem solving, data collection, and cataloging of gathered information, documentation of the process, etc.
Participates in the process of revising and implementing changes in the database and responds to requests and concerns from users or others affected by the system.
Organizes and participates in quality assurance reviews of Trauma Registry work by Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H) physicians.
Randomly selects records to be reviewed and validates abstracts against records.
Responds to reviewing physician concerns.
Participates in systems analysis and research related to the database including analyzing data to identify trends, systems issues, and improvement opportunities.
Participates in presentations related and contributes to the publication process.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate with 3 years of combined medical records and computer data base management/ data processing experience, or the equivalent required.
Extensive knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology required.
Strong organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail desired.
Required Licensure/Certifications
Must complete the Trauma Registry Course from the American Trauma Society (ATS) and pass the Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) exam within 2 years of hire.
