Overview

Performs the duties of a cardiac Sonographer and expands proficiencies of modalities to include 2-D, M-Mode, Doppler, 3-D LVEF Echocardiograms. Assists with trans-esophageal echocardiograms, performs exercise stress and pharmacological stress echocardiograms and basic pediatric (congenital) echocardiograms. Provides training to cardiology fellows and other MD echo trainees and participates in defined areas of leadership within the department.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs all adult cardiac echocardiogram procedures, including exercise and pharmacologic stress testing. Edits tracings, makes measurements and enters data into computer. Distinguishes between normal and abnormal cardiac findings.
  2. Performs cardiac sonographer duties to meet departmental needs including recognizing arrhythmias and implications of specific cardiac and related diagnoses to obtain optimal studies. Operates complex equipment accordingly.
  3. Performs adult echoes on call and pediatric echoes on-call with the assistance of pediatric cardiologist.
  4. Expands proficiencies of modalities and learns new machines with minimal oversight.
  5. Participates in weekly Imaging conference presentations.
  6. Assists in preparing, reviewing, updating and maintaining the policy and procedure manual as well as the clinical resource manual and materials.
  7. Facilitates patient flow within the section and maintains a pro-active approach in dealing with patient concerns.
  8. Seeks and develops new measures to improve the quality of patient care using a multi-disciplinary approach.
  9. Plans and executes improvement efforts and resolves issues. Participates in Quality Assurance and quality control programs.
  10. Works with the quality control section to achieve section and departmental quality standards in order to maintain Joint Commission and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, and any other regulations specific to the section.
  11. Ensures that equipment failures are reported and documented and that all equipment and supplies are available.
  12. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree from accredited cardiac ultrasound program with 3 years of experience/or RDCS-eligible background with 3 years of cardiac echo experience.
  • Proficiency on all equipment in the lab

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • RDMS certification Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer - Adult Echocardiography (RDCS - AE) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
  • Licensed by the Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy in the state of New Hampshire.
  • BLS certification required upon hire.
