Overview

Performs analysis functions to assist in the development and implementation of new Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and related applications, the revision of existing systems. Supports the development and implementation of new LIS functionality in conjunction with the Clinical Genomics and Advanced Technology Lab (CGAT). Functions independently in defining, troubleshooting, and solving software and system analysis assignments using established system analysis techniques. Provides support for genome informatics projects from an LIS perspective. Supports integration of Genomics Systems. 

Responsibilities

  1. Develops prototypes and structures that demonstrate advanced clinical laboratory concepts including, but not limited to genomics applications and software
  2. Supports laboratory sections by providing section specific operational, computational and instructional needs that go beyond the basic support offered by IT. Defines problems, collects data and proposes computer-based solutions.
  3. Data-mines genomic laboratory results and converts them to population databases reporting purposes. Develops and documents system design specifics to assure client/user understanding and agreement of specific system inputs, outputs and costs.
  4. Supports existing genomics applications including but not limited to: Instrument interfaces, analytic pipelines, and electronic medical record integrations.
  5. Troubleshoots application software problems either directly or with the assistance of others (e.g., Infrastructure staff, other application staff, the vendor, etc.)
  6. Maintains effective relationships to provide a climate receptive to systems improvement and to enhance understanding of the users’ business concerns.
  7. Participates in new assay development and supports new technology builds in both the clinical and research areas.
  8. Provides clinical laboratory expertise to users and keeps key constituencies informed of the latest developments and innovations in clinical laboratory informatics systems, adhering to both D-H and regulatory agencies standards.
  9. Leads complex genomics LIS projects as assigned.
  10. Provides technical work direction and leadership to other team personnel as needed in order to insure timely and accurate project completion.
  11. Responsible for review of system changes made by other team personnel to assure accuracy and completeness
  12. Provides technical support after normal working hours as necessary.
  13. Acts as a liaison between pathology informatics, IS – Lab and IS-Technical teams keeping each informed in regard to relevant projects/processes/changes
  14. Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer programming, biology, Medical Technology, or a related genomics field with 5 years of analysis experience in a hospital laboratory environment or equivalent clinical genomics laboratory experience


  • ASCP certification preferred


  • Master’s degree preferred


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required along with consensus-building skills and utilize a team approach


  • Must be an expert/proficient in at least one technology or system/application.


  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical laboratory informatics


  • For positions where Beaker support is a primary responsibility, Epic Beaker certification is required within 1 year of hire
