Overview

The Education Consultant is responsible to support the learning needs of students by providing direct, instructional support in collaboration with school districts, classroom teachers, and parents to create learning opportunities aligned with home district school-based goals and assignments and participate in the facilitation of a therapeutic milieu for the adolescent behavioral health unit.

Responsibilities

  1. Assesses, provides and evaluates goal focused learning for school-aged behavioral health, medical, surgical inpatients.
  2. Consults with the child’s home school teacher and district as appropriate to coordinate materials, communicate regarding student’s learning profile, inquire as to student’s most recent functioning levels, and to share information regarding patient’s current status/ expected length of time from school.
  3. Establish contract with school to initiate billing practices for tutoring rendered.
  4. Assists in preparation of instructional materials, monitors academic work, provides support to reinforce previously learned skills, and collects data on performance.
  5. Documents progress in the EMR and prepares summary of work for the home school district.
  6. Creates and maintains a therapeutic and safe environment which supports regulation, development, diversity and a therapeutic milieu.
  7. Advocates and provides opportunity for and facilitation of developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  8. Represents, communicates, and documents patient learning and educational needs to the interdisciplinary team across the D-H system and within the community in compliance with all HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  9. General understanding of IEP and 504 laws for both Vermont and New Hampshire and skills to support families in initiating the process.
  10. Oversees and mentor’s student teachers and volunteers.
  11. Collaborates with the patient, family, interdisciplinary team members to explore patient learning goals in order to align care plans, enhance communication, and empower patient and family involvement.
  12. Perform other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications




  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, special education, psychology, development, or human services.


  • Knowledge and experience with children with Emotional and Behavior Disorders is required. A minimum of five years’ experience working in a Social Emotional Learning setting or directly with Emotional and Behavioral Disordered children is preferred.
