The Laboratory Specimen Receiving (LSR) Educator assists in the functioning of the Laboratory Specimen Receiving area, the training of staff and acts as a resource for staff. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work with a variety of staff throughout the system. This role has oversight of training of staff.

 

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position with rotating shifts.  It will be primarily a day shift position; however, rotation to evening and night shifts is required to provide training. We offer a 10% shift differential for evenings, and a 20% shift differential for nights.

Responsibilities

  1. Monitors sectional needs and resources. Ensures compliance with regulations/standards, quality control, preventive maintenance, record keeping, safety, and institutional policies.
  2. Acts as liaison with other sections throughout the organization and affiliations to maintain standard processes for Laboratory specimens.
  3. Helps evaluate, select, hire, train, and schedule department personnel.
  4. Advises and assists Supervisor in procedural, logistical, fiscal planning, and administrative matters.
  5. Assesses operating costs and provides budget input.
  6. Assists with testing and review of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  7. Advises Supervisor on the status, preparation, maintenance, review, and revision of procedural manuals.
  8. Participates in the department's continuing education policies and programs and shares expertise with others in the department.
  9. Participates in local, regional, and national organizations and committees to maintain and improve professional abilities and to represent D-H.
  10. Conducts or assists with process improvement projects.
  11. Serves as a resource and provides leadership for troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, training needs, and new workflow development.
  12. Implements computer "down-time” procedures.
  13. Works with sites to follow Lab specimen criteria and standardize the process.
  14. Recommends changes to management in product or supplies which improve sectional process.
  15. Identifies problems and makes decisions to resolve issues.
  16. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Able to complete assignment with minimal direction
  • Must adapt to rapidly changing workflows
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure team environment, handle multiple tasks and react quickly to problems and issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, technicians, management, and subject matter experts.
  • High school graduate, college classes preferred
  • 3+ years Lab or related experience
