Provides infrastructure support and technical assistance throughout the institution by evaluating, implementing and managing server and storage infrastructure throughout data centers in all locations.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the proper management, administration and physical design of the data centers and associated servers and storage appliances
Facilitates and directs the rack and wiring for all servers and storage appliances
Configures various servers and storage appliances for remote access, management and monitoring
Assists in reviewing and monitoring critical thresholds such as disk space utilization, memory and processor capacity, and directs enhancements or upgrades to resources as needed.
Applies firmware updates, and major upgrades as required.
Assists in defining enterprise standards with servers, storage and other data center hardware
Develops alternatives and cost estimates for new systems or data center configurations.
Works with application vendor to design and implement the technical infrastructure required to support the vendor’s application, up to and including server rack mounting and access to the data centers.
Develops operational procedures, depending on hardware.
Develops the upgrade/phase-out strategy for obsolete equipment, assuring that the environment is always running on supportable infrastructure.
Responsible for exploring and recommending new technologies that further the strategic infrastructure goals.
Responsible for managing the infrastructure portion of complex projects while working with the application teams on deploying new hardware to support applications.
Works alongside facilities and engineering to ensure functional infrastructure to support complex technologies
Mentors and guides data center engineers as required
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field with a minimum of ten years of data center infrastructure experience, or the equivalent in education and experience required.
