Evaluates and treats patients on inpatient psychiatric unit. Coordinates and communicates treatment activities.
1. Examines, evaluates, determines prognosis, and provides intervention. Reports findings to other health care team members.
2. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to promote optimum patient rehabilitation. Provides Occupational Therapy services applying the principles and theories of goal-directed, purposeful activity in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and modifying patient care as an active continuous process.
3. Provides discharge recommendations, exercise programs, and family teaching.
4. Participates in and supports departmental programs such as in-service education, student programs, volunteer/observation programs, Professional Practice Committee, etc.
5. Assist patients in organizing their daily activities to maximize performance, including self-care, home management, leisure, and community and social participation.
6. Teach stress management techniques and coping skills.
7. Address the needs of clients on units who also have physical impairments.
8. Develop protocols for and facilitate therapy groups to address goal setting, community re-entry strategies, sleep hygiene, prevocational skills, body image issues, and basic to advanced ADLs and/or iADLs.
9. Work with clients with sensory sensitivities who are overwhelmed by stimuli in groups. 1:1 interactions to explore self-regulation techniques using various resources.
10. Engages in development, implementation/coordination, organization, and leadership of group activities.
11. Utilizes evidence based assessment tools.
12. Delegates tasks to support personnel.
13. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
