Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our medical oncology team at Dartmouth Cancer Center-St. Johnsbury (Vermont). This person must have an unwavering commitment to professionalism, nursing excellence, and teamwork. This position requires empathy, critical thinking, flexibility and the desire to thrive in an ever-changing nursing specialty.

 

In this role, you will provide exceptional care to patients with cancer, helping them navigate the physical and emotional complexities of diagnosis, treatment, symptom management, infection prevention and recovery. Responsibilities of this position include administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy and supportive care medications in our infusion room. It also includes working with physicians and advanced practice providers in our clinic and triage. Oncology experience is preferred but we will train the right person.

This position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. 


Responsibilities

  1. Patient Assessment and Care: Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine patient needs, including physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects.
  2. CVAD and peripheral IV access, care and maintenance
  3. Chemotherapy and Infusion Therapy: Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other IV medications according to protocols and safety guidelines.
  4. Symptom Management: Monitor and manage symptoms and side effects related to cancer and cancer treatments
  5. Patient/family Education: Provide education to patients and families on cancer, treatment plans, medication management, side effects and self-care strategies.
  6. Patient-centered care, critical thinking and commitment to supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.
  7. Collaborate with ancillary departments, healthcare teams and physicians to support patients individualized needs.
  8. Assumes authority and accountability for the nursing care of patients while appropriately delegating elements of care to others members of the care delivery team in accordance with laws, regulations and policies and procedures.
  9. Prioritizes and organizes time to optimize patient outcomes.
  10. Actively seeks out the most current evidence and standards and applies and translates to daily practice.
  11. Role models a culture of inquiry, developing new knowledge by contributing to research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice at the local level.
  12. Communicates effectively in a variety of formats in all areas of practice.
  13. Actively partners with others to effect change that produces positive outcomes through the exchange of knowledge.
  14. Engages in the governance of nursing practice.
  15. Will mentor colleagues for the advancement of nursing practice and the profession.
  16. Precepts the student nurse, nurse extern, nurse resident, experienced clinical nurse and other members of the healthcare team.
  17. Actively seeks feedback and acts to improve performance.
  18. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse is an engaged and credentialed member of the Professional Nursing Organization and is responsible for autonomous practice directed by the professional tenets of practitioner, leader/decision maker, scientist and transferor. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide evidence-based care and to continuously monitor and evaluate practice to ensure safe passage of patients that is in the best interest of populations served.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.                                          

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. 

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Licensed RN with VT eligibility
  • BLS
