Overview

A Clinical Secretary in the Department of Radiation Oncology works as a critical member of the patient care team supporting our providers and patients at all stages of care. As a Clinical Secretary, you can expect a dynamic variety of work from processing incoming referrals; scheduling consults, imaging and follow up visits; to surgical and inpatient stays. We are looking for someone to work collaboratively on our team to deliver the highest quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  1. Schedules patients for new consults, radiation simulation visits, follow up care, surgical procedures, imaging.
  2. Coordinates multidisciplinary care across several services.
  3. Notifies patients of appointments, labs, testing, procedures and preparation.
  4. Notifies physicians, therapists, and nurses of special needs and situations of patients.
  5. Coordinates inpatient transfers and admissions.
  6. May input and edit the master schedule.
  7. Obtain and documents authorizations and pre-certifications prior for services, while notifying Clinic Administration concerning changes in patient insurance prior to the appointment or procedure day.
  8. Coordinates daily procedure and weekly schedules.
  9. Obtains films, reports, and patient histories for procedures, testing, and physician appointments.
  10. Orders supplies/medications for procedures through 3rd party vendors
  11. Assist in ordering genetic testing.
  12. Notifies physicians of meetings, conferences, and patient procedure dates.
  13. Monitors and keeps rotaries updated.
  14. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications




  • Associates degree with 1 year of experience working in a fast-paced hospital setting, or the equivalent in education and experience required.


  • Familiarity with word processing techniques and medical terminology required.


  • Must be detail oriented and possess the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
