Overview

In partnership and under the direction of the Gift Shop Manager, supports the retail functions of the Gift Shop including operating and maintaining pont of sale system, providing data entry for shop inventory and assisting with financial functions, shop operations and working with volunteers.

Responsibilities

  1. Greets customers entering the Gift Shop, provides customer service, and is a consistent presence on the gift shop floor.
  2. Works with Volunteer buyers to assure all inventory is entered and is current in the POS system.
  3. Serves as back-up for volunteer buyers. Unpacks, receives, and marks items for sale. Maintains shelves by stocking, arranging, and displaying items for sale.
  4. Maintains baseline Gift Shop day-to-day operations in manager’s absence.
  5. Resolves/mediates problems with daily operations, volunteers, or customers.
  6. Assists in the acquisition of shop merchandise and supplies by providing current inventory status reports.
  7. Provides training to new volunteers and trouble shoots computer issues as they come up with volunteers.
  8. Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of shop equipment including cash registers/computers, credit card machines, helium tanks and displays.
  9. Assists in the recruitment hiring and orientation of the DH Gift Shop volunteers.
  10. Participates in ongoing staff and volunteer training programs.
  11. Serves as a Cashier, when necessary, and answers phone inquiries.
  12. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree with 1 year of retail experience, or the equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with the public and overseeing the work of staff and volunteers in a challenging, fast-paced retail environment is preferred.
  • Tact and excellent verbal communication skills required.
  • Must be familiar with the use of a personal computer.
  • Previous bookkeeping and budgeting experience necessary. Experience with financial software preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in all electronic point of sale functions and cash handling procedures.
