Overview

The Anatomical Specimen and Tissue Coordinator at Dartmouth Health is a pivotal role bridging clinical surgery and medical research. This position is tasked with managing and overseeing the lifecycle of tissue specimens used in surgical implants, as well as coordinating the use of cadavers for research and educational purposes.

The Anatomical Specimen and Tissue Coordinator serves as a vital link between the operational, clinical, and research arms of Dartmouth Health, requiring a unique blend of skills including attention to detail, expertise in biological sciences, and proficiency in regulatory compliance. This role not only supports the immediate needs of surgical procedures but also contributes significantly to the advancement of medical research and education.

Responsibilities

1. Bi-Directional Tracking of Implanted Tissues:
§  Implement and maintain a robust tracking system for all tissues intended for implantation during surgical procedures.
§  Ensure accurate documentation and traceability of tissues from donor to recipient, complying with regulatory and ethical standards.
§  Collaborate with surgical teams to confirm the proper handling and usage of tissues.
§  Monitor tissue inventory, ensuring availability and viability for scheduled surgeries.
§  Conduct regular audits and generate reports on tissue usage and outcomes.
 
2. Cadaver Lab Coordination:
§  Organize and manage cadaver labs for medical research and training purposes.
§  Liaise with relevant departments, including pathology, research teams, and educational faculty, to facilitate lab activities.
§  Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and health and safety regulations regarding cadaver usage.
§  Coordinate the acquisition, preparation, storage, and disposal of cadavers and related materials.
 
3. Compliance and Quality Control:
§  Stay updated with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to tissue and cadaver handling.
§  Develop and maintain SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for all processes under your purview.
§  Collaborate with the compliance department to ensure adherence to all relevant guidelines.
§  Conduct regular quality control checks and risk assessments.
 
4. Stakeholder Engagement:
§  Act as a primary point of contact for surgeons, researchers, and regulatory bodies.
§  Provide training and guidance to staff on tissue handling and cadaver lab procedures.
§  Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss ongoing projects and process improvements.
 
5. Record Keeping and Reporting:
-       Maintain meticulous records of all specimens, tissues, and related activities.
-       Prepare and present regular reports to management and stakeholders.
-       Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for research.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

ü  Bachelor’s degree in a relevant fieldü  Experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting, particularly with tissue handling and specimen management.ü  Knowledge of surgical procedures and medical terminology.ü  Familiarity with legal and ethical guidelines related to human tissues and cadavers.ü  Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.ü  Proficiency in data management and reporting tools.
