Overview

An integral part of our hospital operations – the role of the Phlebotomist is a key player in the facilitation of collecting and passing along a vital piece of information to our Laboratory and Pathologists to help DHMC and Clinics achieve its mission of providing each person the best care, in the right place, at the right time, every time.

 

The Phlebotomy Team Lead assists in the functioning of the phlebotomy and laboratory specimen areas and the training of laboratory staff. The core duties of a team lead include work of the same or similar nature of teammates.

 

This position requires at least 2 years of Phlebotomy experience and current Phlebotomy Technician Certification (ASCP or other certifying body).  

 

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week day-shift position located at our Concord Clinic.

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates workflow and work priority within the team.
  2. Provide technical guidance, oversight and mentoring to team members.
  3. Provide on-the-job training, where necessary and identify training opportunities.
  4. Provide input to leadership regarding performance and/or need for disciplinary action.
  5. Acts as liaison with other sections throughout the organization and affiliations to maintain standard processes for laboratory specimens and phlebotomy procedures.
  6. Advises and assists the departmental supervisor in procedural, logistical, fiscal planning, and administrative matters.
  7. Advises and assists the departmental supervisor with current procedure manuals for labs in the phlebotomy area.
  8. Assists with testing and review of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  9. Advises the supervisor on the status, preparation, maintenance, review, and revision of procedural manuals.
  10. Conducts or assists with process improvement projects with the supervisor.
  11. Serves as a resource and provides leadership for troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, training needs, and new workflow development.
  12. Implements computer "down-time” procedures.
  13. Works with the different lab sites to follow lab specimen and Phlebotomy criteria and standardize processes.
  14. Recommends changes to management in product or supplies which improve sectional process in the phlebotomy area.
  15. Identifies problems and makes decisions to resolve issues. Keeps the supervisor and management team informed.
  16. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with 2 years of phlebotomy experience required.
  • Ability to organize time and prioritize tasks required.
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate level of productivity required.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Certification as Phlebotomy Technician – PBT(ASCP) Board of Certification or an equivalent required.
  • BLS certification required
