Overview

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a per diem Advanced Practitioner (APRN or PA) to provide diagnostic evaluation and management of acute medical complaints for children and adults, presenting to the Emergency Department, or being observed in the ED's Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). Care for CDU patients will be based on problem-specific evaluation and management protocols. Primary responsibilities for all assigned patients include ordering diagnostic testing, obtaining consultations, performing simple procedures within the advanced practitioner’s scope of practice, prescribing medications, directing the administration of medications by nursing staff, and ensuring an appropriate disposition plan. Patients will be cared for in a variety of locations including but not limited to ED FAST Track, CDU, or general ED.

 

Dartmouth-Hitchcock is an academic health system serving patients across northern New England, providing the only Level I trauma center in New Hampshire as well as the Dartmouth Cancer Center and CHaD- the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. As the home to the Dartmouth Institute and Geisel School of Medicine, opportunities for academic appointment and advancement are rich for motivated providers.

 

Lebanon and the neighboring town of Hanover, home to Dartmouth College, are located in the “Upper Valley” which straddles the pristine Connecticut River, a national heritage river and includes 46 towns in western New Hampshire and eastern Vermont. This local region boasts excellent local schools, a myriad of cultural opportunities through Dartmouth College, as well as the Lebanon Opera House and Northern Stage in White River Junction, as well as an abundance of recreational opportunities. Amenities associated with urban areas in Boston MA, Burlington, VT and Montreal QC are all within a few hours’ drive.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited APRN or PA academic program
  • National specialty certification as FNP, PNP, Acute or Primary Care A-GNP, WHNP or certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Eligible for RN licensure in the State of NH (APRN only)
  • Eligible for APRN or PA licensure in the State of NH
  • Eligible for Federal DEA Registration
  • BLS certification
