Overview

This position is for a Professional Development Nurse in the Main Operating Room, covering the Cardiovascular service. Experience in Cardiovascular OR nursing is required. 

 

Participates in the development of and responsible for the implementation of unit based orientation programs including nurse residency, experienced nurse orientation and licensed nursing assistant orientation. Evaluates program outcomes and updates curriculum based on quality metrics, accreditation requirements and regulatory requirements. Participates in the development of and implements competency programs for new and experienced nursing staff.

Responsibilities




  1. 1. Orientation and Onboarding


  2. Coordinates and implements unit based orientation programs for nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, LNAs, patient care assistants, and others) new to DHMC or transferring to assigned unit


  3. Delivers training and ensures new staff competency regarding organizational systems, including, but not limited to, point of care testing, medication dispensing systems, electronic health record


  4. Assigns preceptors in collaboration with unit leadership


  5. 2. Competency Management


  6. Manages competencies for nursing staff on assigned unit


  7. Collaborates with unit leadership to identify appropriate competencies and ensure program is carried out in a timely and coordinated fashion


  8. Participates in the development of and implements staff competencies based on needs assessments, regulatory requirements, policy/procedure changes, new equipment and quality metrics


  9. 3. Education


  10. Conducts and participates in practice gap analysis and learning needs assessments


  11. Participates in the development of, implements and evaluates education programs related orientation, competency and continuing nursing education


  12. Demonstrates innovation within designated programs


  13. Integrates technology into educational programming


  14. Participates in the development of new educational programs as identified through needs assessment, gap analyses or regulatory requirements


  15. 4. Role Development


  16. Implements and maintains unit-based orientation programs for new to practice staff and staff transitioning from one specialty or role to another in alignment with accreditation criteria


  17. Participates in the development of and implements initial and ongoing preceptor development programs


  18. Supports succession planning


  19. Conducts career coaching


  20. Supports clinical advancement models


  21. 5. Collaboration


  22. Collaborates with other departments to facilitate high quality, cost effective patient care


  23. Participates in the development of and implements interprofessional education in collaboration with interprofessional colleagues


  24. Participates in interprofessional committees


  25. Supports and is a champion for excellence initiatives and shared governance


  26. 6. Inquire


  27. Participates in research, evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives


  28. Collects, analyzes and presents data related to educational programs


Qualifications




  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required OR


  • Non-nursing bachelor’s degree AND Associate’s Degree in Nursing with commensurate experience and matriculation into a Master’s in Nursing program required


  • 3 years of clinical experience in identified specialty.


  • Excellent informatics, verbal and written communications skills desired


  • Nursing Professional Development-Board Certified preferred within 1 year


Required Licensure/Certifications




  • Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility


  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required.
