Provides support to the genetic counseling team as directed by the senior genetic counselor.
Responsibilities
Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers by applying best practices and standard operating procedures.
Obtains applicable records and results from outside providers and laboratories.
Acts as a liaison between clinical team, insurance companies, laboratories and patients.
Communicates with families to obtain records, insurance prior authorization, consent forms, sample collection, and updates to families at the direction of clinical staff.
Completes patient information on lab requisition forms for genetic testing, maintain supply of test kits and send kits to families when needed. Assist with lab tracking.
Assists with incoming calls and scheduling appointments as needed.
Assists with creating letters, submission and tracking of insurance prior authorizations.
Assists with triaging referrals and general inquiries.
Contacts patients with routine normal test results as directed by the clinical team.
Documents conversations in the medical record as appropriate.
Assists with data entry and maintenance of the department database.
Participates in ongoing research activities of the program.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree in biology or a science field preferred.
